The Sako 85 Varmint Stainless 243 Winchester features the same qualities as the Sako 85 Varmint but with the difference of Stainless metal parts. Combined with an attractive yet ultra-tough checkered brown laminated stock, the Varmint Stainless is perfect for extreme conditions. The stock features classic American-style lines with its slightly raised comb and sleek profile. It also has a shadow-line cheek piece on the left side. The stainless barreled action and warp-free stock makes the Sako 85 Varmint Stainless 243 Winchester a very popular choice for shooters and hunters testing the elements. Optimized for rough conditions, the Sako 85 Varmint Stainless with the fluted stainless barrel and satin finishes, give this rifle a classic styling and feel, making it a valued rifle to both own and shoot.

The Sako 85 Varmint Stainless chambered in the 243 Winchester Caliber will be one of the best plains game rifles. The 6mm projectiles have proven itself from long range gong shoots to a great caliber for short to longer distance hunting. The range of bullets that seem to be the most popular is in the 80 to 100 grain range. The trajectories with a muzzle velocity around the 2750 to 3300 ft/s mark, makes this a useful rifle for hunting varmint animals to medium bodied antelope like Springbuck, Fallow Deer and Blesbuck. The ability of the 243 Winchester Caliber to achieve good velocity with moderate recoil and still deliver knock down power, make it a great choice for competition shooters and hunters alike.

The Sako 85 Stainless Varmint rifle has a laminated stock that features a sligtly raised comb and shadow line cheekpiece on the left hand side of the stock. Although it can be used by left handed shooters and hunters, the stock design fits right handed shooters better. It has a slight palm swell that fit most hands comfortably and is shaped in such a way that the finger align comfortably with the trigger. The Laminated stock is very stable, warp and weather resistant.

The for-end of the stock has a checkered pattern to ensure a firm grip in the wettest conditions. It has a nice comfortable fit in hand and contribute to the rifle’s fine balance and handling characteristics. Swivel studs come standard on the stock for the attachment of a rifle sling or bi-pod. The inletting of the stock also ensure a free floating barrel. The stock also has a pronounced pistol grip, enhancing the ergonomics of the stock. It also adds to the comfort of shooting the rifle in a prone position.

Sako 85 Rifles are fitted with the latest in recoil pad technology. It reduces the impact of the recoil on the shooter which is a very useful feature, especially on the heavy recoiling calibers. The robust pad allows you to fully concentrate on the accuracy of your shots.

The wide trigger with a crisp break is adjustable from 2 to 4 lb pull weight. It can be easily adjusted by the user without removing the stock. The trigger is protected by a steel trigger guard.

A one-piece, full-diameter bolt with three locking lugs locks within the barrel extension. The bolt release is on the receiver’s left side. The ejector is mounted on the receiver. The extractor is mounted on the bolthead. The Sako 85 action has both push and controlled feed characteristics. A red cocking indicator protrudes from the bolt’s rear. The one piece bolt opens with a 70° bolt handle lift.
Sako matches the size of the action to the caliber.
Sako’s combination of the extractor riding low in the ejection port and the receiver mounted ejector means that fired cases leave the action at a low angle and can be neatly deposited in the shooters hand by opening the bolt slowly.

The Stainless barrel on the Sako 85 Varmint Stainless is absolute class Sako engineering. Sako 85 barrels are hammer-forged and every Sako rifle has a 5 shot 1 MOA guarantee from 100 yards. The ripple-free fluted exterior and the minimal tooling marks on the inside are both indications of the quality of its construction. The muzzle is not threaded and features a target-style crown. The barrel has a satin finish.

Robustness and quality go hand in hand. The metallic bolt shroud covers and shields the rear of the bolt body and the firing pin. A red pin indicate when the rifle is loaded. The bolt shroud is stylishly design to taper with the rear of the action.

The magazine Sako pairs with this action is a five-round, double-stack magazine. The removable magazine has an all metal construction. Once inserted the magazine is flush fitting to the bottom of the stock. It also has to be pushed in for the latch to disengage the magazine. This function is to prevent the accidental release of the magazine.

The Sako 85 has the well known tapered dovetail mounts machined into the receiver for the fitment of scope bases. The most popular base and ring is the Sako Optilock mounts.

The special two-way Sako safety locks both the trigger and the bolt handle. The unique bolt release button of the Sako Safety System allows you to load or remove a cartridge from the chamber while the safety is engaged.

Most Sako 85 Hunter models have free-floating barrels, manufactured by the specialists at Sako. Barrel blanks are drilled, honed, cold-hammer forged, finished and finally individually inspected by the most complex and highly refined optical fine tuning instrument: the human eye. Twist rates are chosen for each caliber to optimize accuracy and bullet performance. Sako 85 barrels have a non-reflecting, satin-like surface.

The Sako 85 Hunter high grade walnut stock ergonomics are optimized to guarantee the best shooting posture. Excellent balance and smooth bolt operation make straight, accurate and fast shooting phenomenal to Sako rifles

Sako 85 rifle models are offered with optional adjustable iron sights.

All Sako Model 85 rifle models has its famous extractor claw made of very durable heat treated special steel. When the bolt brings the case back, it is ejected by the active mechanical ejector fork out of the rifle. The Ejector is in the rear bridge bottom, not in the bolt face, as is the case with most other rifles.

Sako 85 Hunter actions are available in 6 different sizes (CSA), providing the very best functions for each cartridge size. All Sako 85 models feature controlled cartridge feed (RCS) to virtually eliminate double feeding or cartridge jam. The Sako turnbolt handle gives natural hand position during bolt operation, which allows very quick repeated firing.

The staggered, two-row magazine of the Sako Model 85 rifle has a stainless steel construction. The detachable magazine can also be loaded through the ejection port. The Total Control Latch (patent pending) of the Sako Model 85 prevents accidental magazine releases.

The weight of pull of the single-stage Sako Model 85 trigger unit is adjustable from 1 to 2 kg (2 – 4 lbs). An optional single-set trigger is also available for most Sako 85 models. The trigger of all the Sako Model 85 rifles is protected by an extremely durable, steel trigger guard.

The special 2-way Sako safety locks both the trigger and the bolt handle. A unique bolt release button of the Sako Safety System allows you to load or remove a cartridge from the chamber with the safety engaged.
